The past two weekends (Februray 17th-28th) was the annual Mardi Gras celebrations in Galveston, Texas. People from all over the state and even out of state come down to Galveston to enjoy our beaches and of course our CELEBRATION. There are parades during the day driving down the Seawall and there are musical performances in the evenings on the Strand.
There are schedules online; you can run a 5K, be in the parades, be entertained by musical artists from around the state, enjoy classic Galveston cuisine, and go to balcony parties, where you can throw beads at the oncoming crowds. Online there is already a countdown for next year. http://www.mardigrasgalveston.com/
Galveston, the third largest Mardi Gras celebration in the United States, offers the unique chance to experience sand between your toes and gorgeous beach sunsets while taking in the revelry and lavish parades known to dominate Galveston Island during carnival season.
This year I was unable to go to the nighttime performances, but I did happen to catch a few pictures of the mid-day parades down Seawall.
